Birds

Hubby has been saying for a while that he would like to keep a list of all the birds he sees here. To say the bird life is abundant, is a massive understatement. Rather than birdsong at dawn and dusk, it is a beautiful symphony that goes on all day. No, I don't miss the constant sound of traffic when the twittering and chirping of birds is the replacement! Already we have seen birds we haven't ever seen before. We had a male satin bower bird in our back yard late winter - early spring, who was busily collecting all the blue bits and pieces he could find (including my pegs!). Just a few days ago, we were graced with a dollar bird, and then yesterday we saw a scarlet honeyeater hopping around in our fig tree in the front yard that the kids all love to climb.

The first photo is of a scarlet honeyeater. It isn't one of our pics, it was taken by A. Leishman and the original may be seen at:

The second is our photo of the Dollar bird. Not a great one I know, but hubby is happy because he is insisting that we now need a better camera!!

A New Beginning...

Well, here we are, 3 months into our new beginning. In July we upheaved the family from the bustling city life in Brisbane and moved to the most beautiful place on earth. As I sit here at the dining table (a lovely big solid blackbutt country table bought down here that sits 2 families comfortably and 3 at a pinch) we bought a few weeks after our arrival, I look out the window, through the verandah and out to the gorgeous Bucca Valley. There are trees as far as the eye can see and a lovely mountain range "just there". Although we are not on acreage, we have a lovely big block with room for the kids to have a big cubby house, 2 vegie patches for Dad, a herb garden for mum and room to spare.
